Dass ehemalige Stahlhelme aus dem 1. Weltkrieg auch nach 1918 weiter genutzt wurden, sieht man beispielsweise bei der Reichswehr, die zwischen 1921 und 1934 diese Stahlhelme weiter verwendete.

The former steel helmets of World War I were still used after 1918, as can be seen, for example, in the Reichswehr, which continued to use these steel helmets between 1921 and 1934.
Aber auch mit der Einführung des neuen Stahlhelmes bei der Wehrmacht (Modell 35 von 1935) wurden die "alten" Helme weiter getragen.
Der hier gezeigte Stahlhelm (Modell 16, benannt nach dem Herstellungsjahr 1916) erhielt 1931 eine neue Innenausstattung, die heute ebenso als Innenausstattung 31 bezeichnet wird. Diese von der Firma Schuberth neu entwickelte Innenausstattung bot einen besseren Tragekomfort.
Wie lange der Helm im Anschluss noch getragen wurde, zeigt zum einen der dicke, feldmäßig aufgetragene Anstrich in feldgrau und zum anderen der gelbliche Südfrontanstrich. Wann dieser aufgetragen und wo der Helm eingesetzt wurde, ist heute leider nicht mehr nachvollziehbar.
Der Helm wurde in Frankreich zusammen mit einer Gasmaskendose gefunden. Die Farbe der Gasmaskendose ähnelt dem Anstrich des Helmes sehr, variiert aber leicht.

How long the helmet was continued to be worn shows can be seen by the thick, field-applied paint in field gray on the one hand and by the yellowish paint, typical for the southern theatre of war on the other. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to trace back the time of application and where the helmet was worn.
The helmet was found in France, along with a gas mask can. The color of the gas mask can is very similar to the paint on the helmet but varies slightly.
